Finding Mental Clarity During Quarantine

During this long quarantine period, mental stability and clarity is a major concern of many people. "I'm going stir crazy!" is a common thought for many of us. We are currently presented with a challenge that almost none of us have faced in our life time before. How can we Neutralize our mental Obstacles and Weaknesses? Below are a few tips that can be added to your daily life that will help boost mental clarity and combat the Obstacles and Weaknesses that you may be facing.

1. Movement and Exercise

This tip is probably the most important because it will also help boost your immune system. It is easy for us to fall into a phase of going from bed to couch to bed when we have nothing to do. But trying to have frequent movement or exercise daily has been shown to have psychological benefits. When we exercise, the body releases endorphins which triggers feelings of positivity and happiness. Exercise can come from something as simple as walking for 20-30 minutes or as extensive to an intense training session. Daily movement is one of the easiest ways to regulate stress levels and boost mood.

2. Stick to a Consistent Schedule

One of the most difficult aspects of this quarantine, with people being at home, is not having a consistent schedule. By having a daily schedule that mimics your regular life, it will allow your brain to have something to focus on instead of binge watching netflix or the news. Not only will your mental state be more positive, your daily activities will likely be much more productive.

3. Setting Goals

Similar to sticking with a consistent schedule, setting new goals for this time during quarantine can be an incredibly useful way for us to feel like our days have a purpose. By setting news goals whether they be professional, personal, mental or physical, there is something new that we can work at each day to better ourselves. Some examples of this would be reading for 30 minutes each day, or attempting to learn a new language, or doing 50 pushups and situps everyday, or meditating for 10 minutes each day. The list is endless and can be tailored to the individual.

4. Taking Time to Ourselves

Spending this much time at home with either family, friends, or whoever can be both a blessing and a curse. For some people the constant social interaction with those around us can stimulate joy and happiness. For others it can evoke stress and anxiety after some time. Taking time throughout the day to be alone with your own thoughts is important for having mental clarity. When constantly surrounded by others it is easy for us to become consumed by stress and negativity. By allowing ourselves to physically or mentally separate ourselves from this stress and negativity, we will be able to hopefully enjoy a more positive headspace.
